]]>Our latest location, Café Beignet at the Old Coffee Pot is now open for business! The old building dates back to 1829 and was once a town house before it became a restaurant. The new owners have completely renovated the location and brought back much of the essence and beauty of the building from its former days.
“We wanted to freshen it up and show off its old character; make it look like it did 50 years ago,” says one of the owners, Peter Moss. “We bought this location so that we could be respectful of the history and continue the charm and ambiance that brought people here all those years.”
Commited to preserving the memory of the previous establishment, which was in operation for 125 years, the Old Coffee Pot sign is prominently displayed in the restaurant and some of the murals have been restored.
Along with the delicious beignets, Café Beignet at the Old Coffee Pot has brought back an old New Orleans staple dish, calas. The fried rice fritters are dusted with powdered sugar and served hot. With hints of cinnamon and nutmeg, it makes for a sweet and savory treat (even better with some syrup on top)!
We are located at 714 St. Peter Street in the French Quarter. Breakfast served all day. Open 8am-10pm daily.
Will keep us from entertaining our vistors. Come to Cafe Beignet in Musical Legends Park and enjoy, beignets and music and lots of New Orleans personality.
]]>This summer, the Cafe Beignet franchise is set to open a new location at the original location of The Old Coffee Pot, next to Pat O'Brien's and Preservation Hall. The Old Coffee Pot, which closed in February of 2019, has been a staple in the city since 1894. Cafe Beignet plans to honor the history of the old restaurant and restore it to its former glory that it possessed 50 years ago.
In addition to delicious beignets and New Orleans specialties, this new location will also serve calas, which is Creole rice fritters topped with powdered sugar, as this was one of the dishes the Old Coffee Pot was famous for. At one point, The Old Coffee Pot operated a cooking school on the second floor and Cafe Beignet hopes to bring that back as well.
Since the first Cafe Beignet opened in the 1980s, the company has seen a good bit of growth over the years with three locations, on Royal Street next to the police station in the 300 block, at 311 Bourbon St. and in the Jax Brewery complex on Decatur Street. Cafe Beignet at the Old Coffee Pot will be located at 714 St. Peter Street.
Stay tuned for more updates!
