Allen Toussaint
Born in 1938, Allen Toussaint was a songwriter, producer, pianist, and singer. He wrote songs for The Rolling Stones, Otis Redding, and Irma Thomas. He was a producer for Paul McCartney, Dr. John, and many others. President Obama awarded him the National Medal of Arts and he is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. A friendly man, Allen always dressed his best and had a license plate that read PIANO. He passed away in 2015, the day after an amazing concert in Madrid. Be sure to take a closer look at the statue's inscribed lyrics to “Southern Nights”!
“Have you ever felt a Southern night? Free as a breeze. Not to mention the trees. Whistling tunes you know and love so.” – Allen Toussaint
