Cafe Beignet at the Old Coffee Pot Coming Soon

February 26, 2019 | Latest News

This summer, the Cafe Beignet franchise is set to open a new location at the original location of  The Old Coffee Pot, next to Pat O'Brien's and Preservation Hall. The Old Coffee Pot, which closed in February of 2019, has been a staple in the city since 1894. Cafe Beignet plans to honor the history of the old restaurant and restore it to its former glory that it possessed 50 years ago.

In addition to delicious beignets and New Orleans specialties, this new location will also serve calas, which is Creole rice fritters topped with powdered sugar, as this was one of the dishes the Old Coffee Pot was famous for. At one point, The Old Coffee Pot operated a cooking school on the second floor and Cafe Beignet hopes to bring that back as well.

Since the first Cafe Beignet opened in the 1980s, the company has seen a good bit of growth over the years with three locations, on Royal Street next to the police station in the 300 block, at 311 Bourbon St. and in the Jax Brewery complex on Decatur Street. Cafe Beignet at the Old Coffee Pot will be located at 714 St. Peter Street.
